Breed Koi Fish: How To Do It
When it comes to attempting to breed Koi fish, you might find it easier to try doing it in a breeding tank. This will enable you to keep a closer eye on the process so that you are able to see for yourself the fascinating Koi breeding habits. If you are planning on using a breeding tank, you should decorate the tank by making sure that there are enough suitable breeding areas for the Koi. Any items which you place in the tank should be totally submerged to make it safe for the Koi and if you use natural plants such as hyacinths, you so make sure that you treat them to get rid of any unwanted parasites which might harm the Koi. You can also use plastic plants, but they don’t have the same qualities as natural material.
You should also place netting over your Koi fish, whether you are breeding in an aquarium or a pond it is always recommended to cover the environment because this deters the Koi from trying to jump out of the pond or the aquarium and it also helps to keep out parasites. When learning how to breed Koi fish, you should also keep an eye on the water pH levels of the tank. The pH isn’t as important to the spawning process as it is to the fry. This is because different levels can affect the offspring in various ways. For instance neutral water is considered the best because more acidic water can cause the Koi to turn a red color and have a weak black color and more alkaline water can give the Koi good black coloring but weak red coloring.
Once you are ready to put your male and female Koi together, then the rest is really up to the fish all you have to do now is sit back and observe. When breeding, the male Koi will sometimes try to push away the female or push her against objects so that he can try to force the eggs from her. If you are using two males and one female, then both males will often push her from side to side to create the same effect, not very romantic but it works! During this process, you should keep an eagle eye out because the female Koi could end up getting hurt. If you think that she is becoming a bit battered and her health is suffering then you should remove her from the breeding tank right away and try again when she has had time to recover.
